Great article. Vietnam is so contrasting. You can see on one side the shabby houses and the high-rises right opposite to it.

I felt the same about Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, but different isn't always a bad thing. Crossing the road there is totally different to even the biggest roads in Hanoi. HCMC really is in a league of its own. The sights in Ho Chi Minh City are also quite different in style. Strangely the City Hall doesn't look familiar which is weird because I walked all through that area. The views from the Bitexco Tower are also awesome. The food scene there is quite cool too, I particularly remember the Vietnamese/French bakeries, yum!

Wow! Didn't know Ho chi minh had such a contrast in terms of architecture. Beautiful! Do the bikers follow traffic rules? Or is it difficult to cross the road without the fear of being hit?

Great post guys. I love Vietnamese food and have been to Da Nang etc - but haven't visited Saigon yet. My brother and cousin are flying from the UK to visit later this year so I'm hoping I will get the chance to join them. The photo of Rex Hotel’s Rooftop Garden is epic - very professional looking :)

Another great post, pictures, and video! It's great to know the people are friendly to tourists, makes things so much nicer. The food and accommodations look perfect. Love the architecture of some of those buildings, so much history. Will pin for a future visit one day, Thanks!

What an interesting opening to this post; I did not know that the locals still refer to HCMC as Saigon and honestly thought that when people were being ignorant when they said "Saigon" so thank you for that tip - noted for when we visit! What a shame you didn't have a chance to see Cu Chi Tunnels, darn flights! When we visit, we will definitely be heading for the high life; I love roof-top bars, especially if there is a cocktail involved :D Thank you for another fabulous post in your Vietnam series, pinned for our visit. #feetdotravel

HCMC is one of my favourite destinations. Vietnamese people are so friendly and accommodating, I'd live there in a heartbeat. Great pics as always, especially all the graduating students. Love your work!
